Archbishop Desmond Tutu comments,

"The Choir Invisible are fabulous and Leah and I are thrilled that they are now OUR choir!"

Last July Choir Invisible was deeply honoured to be chosen to sing for Archbishop Desmond Tutu when he visited the UK for a civic reception with footballers Gordon Banks and Pele and his friend, the Irish humanitarian, Don Mullan. The Archbishop arrived as the choir stood outside in the drizzle singing a love song in Swahili, and was so taken with the choir that he came over to meet the singers!* Such a great rapport was established that Don suggested to the Archbishop that perhaps Choir Invisible might forge a lasting link with his Peace work. The encounter between the Archbishop and Choir Invisible has inspired Don to create a series of 'Desmond and Leah Tutu Peace Choirs' around the world, with Choir Invisible having the honour of being the World's first!

Desmond Tutu is one of the world's most revered elder statesmen. Though not in good health he travels the world tirelessly, campaigning for human rights, for the oppressed and for peace. The idea behind the initiative is that Choir Invisible will support the Archbishop's work, singing their unique repertoire: songs about our common humanity that bring people together, fill them with hope and inspire them to act for the greater good – and raise funds to support the Archbishop's vital work through his own office, Mpilo Ministries. Choir Invisible, as the Archbishop's first 'Peace Choir' in the world, will pioneer this role with the aim of rolling the model out internationally to create a network of 'Peace Choirs', all singing as a force for good in the world.
